JOB SUMMARY
The IT Specialist IV – Senior Data Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust extract, transform and load (ETL) processes to support agency data analytics and operational reporting. This individual will address complex technical challenges and ensure the accuracy, reliability and efficiency of our data management systems. This position reports to an IT Supervisor.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) AND four (4) years of related experience
OR
Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field AND three (3) years of related experience.
Related experience includes: Writing extract, transform and load (ETL) packages and SQL queries at an advanced level, designing and implementing database schemas, working with customers to solicit data and report requirements, building complex reporting solutions.
Preferred experience includes: SQL Server Reporting Services, SQL Server Integration Services, Tableau
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have a valid Florida driver’s license. Must attend and successfully complete the agency sponsored Law Enforcement Vehicle Operations (LEVO) Training if assignment includes driving an agency vehicle. Use of agency vehicle would require appropriate driving history and passing agency biennial driver’s physical exam. Depending on assignment, may be required to be FCIC/NCIC certified within one (1) year of accepting position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Must have advanced computer skills and advanced proficiency in writing SQL and ETL packages, as well as be able to troubleshoot and solve complex technical problems. Must have knowledge of data warehousing design and implementation.
Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, and financial reports. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from citizens, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
Must have the ability to use creative and original thinking. Must also have ability to use judgment and discretion. Ability to focus and complete assignments in a timely manner. Ability to meet with stakeholders to identify business requirements and translate these objectives into an acceptable technological solution that is cost effective and consistent with agency policy.

- Designs, develops and manages the agency’s SQL data warehouse.
- Extracts, transforms and loads business appropriate data into agency data warehouse.
- Monitors data warehouse and troubleshoots issues that arise.
- Designs, develops and maintains reports, scorecards, and dashboards that effectively tell the story of the data and highlight anomalies in a manner that customers can easily understand and act upon.
- Documents work processes and produces training materials to teach co-workers and customers.
- Understands data-management controls and business process intelligence.
- Understands and translates business requirements into system requirements incorporating timing, contingencies, and limitations.
- Exercises sound judgment and critical decision making within approved guidelines on business-process and system requirements.
- Identifies areas for process improvement and standardization.
- Ensures that reporting delivered to internal customers is accurate, useful, and actionable.
